Nashville SC recovered from two goals down to beat Red Bull New York 3–2 on Sunday, 1 November, with Sam Surridge scoring the winner in added time. ESPN’s final record distinguishes two own goals from Surridge’s decisive finish, an important detail in explaining the comeback.

Two own goals reopened the match

Julian Hall put New York ahead in the 34th minute and Rafael Mosquera doubled the lead in the 40th. Tim Parker’s own goal reduced the deficit after 45 minutes, before Julián Bazán’s own goal brought Nashville level in the 78th. Surridge then headed in Cristian Espinoza’s cross following a corner in the first minute of stoppage time.

Nashville had 61.3% possession and produced 21 attempts, seven of them on target. New York finished with 14 attempts and four on target. Those figures provide evidence of the home side’s attacking pressure, while the individual scoring record explains why the three Nashville goals should not all be assigned to their forwards. The visitors’ early two-goal advantage ultimately lasted only until the late sequence of equaliser and winner.
