Gotham won their first NWSL Shield after beating Utah Royals 2–0 in the regular-season finale on 1 November in the United States, in the early hours of 2 November in Jerusalem. The league’s announcement dated 2 November confirms that Gotham enter the playoffs as the top seed.

Guro Reiten scored in the ninth minute and Jaedyn Shaw added the second in the 80th from Midge Purce’s assist, as recorded in the match data. Gotham finished with 61 points from 30 games, ahead of San Diego on 58, in the official final standings.

Two different trophies

The Shield rewards the best regular-season record; the championship is decided through the playoffs. The official quarterfinal schedule sends Seattle to Gotham on 8 November. The league-leading finish provides the top seed and a home opening game, but Gotham still need to win the knockout tie to advance. Regular-season superiority does not itself award a place in the final.
