Marseille beat Toulouse 2–0 on the evening of 1 November after scoring both goals inside the first 25 minutes. Amine Harit opened the scoring in the first minute from an Amine Gouiri assist, and Gouiri added the second after 25 minutes from Igor Paixão’s pass, according to ESPN. ESPN’s match record.

Gouiri’s role changed between the goals, from creator of the opener to finisher of the second. The two-goal advantage then remained unchanged despite Toulouse having a large part of the match in which to respond.

The statistical context is striking. Toulouse had 56.4 per cent possession, 14 attempts and seven on target, compared with Marseille’s 13 attempts and three on target. That visiting output did not produce a goal, while Marseille scored twice from their three efforts on target. The result therefore combines an effective opening period with the preservation of a clean sheet rather than requiring an assumption of continuous home statistical dominance.
